Data and Research
At the Cowen Institute, we improve public education by identifying the key factors that make school systems successful and putting that knowledge to action through our data and research. We research New Orleans’ public education school system — the most decentralized in America — and share our findings in an unbiased, accessible way for members of our community and nationwide. We also use direct public engagement, advocacy, and strategic initiatives to frame discussions on the future of public education and to ensure the success of all stakeholders in the K-12 and postsecondary systems.
New Orleans’ public school system is dynamic. The Cowen Institute was formed to chronicle, research, and analyze its transformations, particularly in governance and accountability. As the system continues to evolve, we document changes in a way that’s relevant and approachable, not only for education leaders and policymakers but also for parents, students, and the public-at-large.
